Justus Liebig University (JLU) is a research university founded in 1607 that attracts more than 28,000 students. JLU combines a broad and interdisciplinary spectrum of research and teaching in the areas of law, economics and business studies, the natural sciences, and the humanities with a range of subdisciplines that is unique for Germany. The Institute of Food Chemistry and Food Biotechnology ” in the “Faculty Biology and Chemistry” consists of three research groups with outstanding expertise in the fields of food chemistry, biotechnology and residue analysis.

Prof. Hamscher is a state-certified Food Chemist and habilitated Food Toxicologist, with over 20 years of experience in basic medical and veterinary research (including gastrointestinal peptides and veterinary antibiotics). Since 2010 University Professor of Food Chemistry and Food Biotechnology at the Justus Liebig University. Current research topics include the analysis of veterinary drugs and toxicologically relevant substances in food and the environment, as well as the behavior of selected active ingredients in biotechnological processes. JLU is the degree awarding entity for beneficiary PEI.
